"This book is meant for caregivers- parents, loved ones, guardians, providers, physicians, and anyone who is taking care of patients who have Prader-Willi Syndrome. You all already know that you will have to watch out for overeating and consequent weight gain. In my experience, what people are most unprepared for are the neuropsychiatric symptoms that often complicate this genetic disorder. Being a psychiatrist, I have tried my best to reflect the various evidence-based psychotherapeutic modalities which can be used to manage behavioral problems in PWS. However, my psychologist and other mental health provider colleagues may find this text sparse when it comes to discussing the value of psychotherapy. Despite the brevity of information on psychotherapy, the reader should note that evidence-based behavioral and psychological interventions can be life-changing for many individuals with PWS and their families. Readers should also note that PWS complicates an already complex human neurobiology. No text can cover all the conditions and complications that affect patients with PWS. Many non-psychiatric conditions can cause psychiatric symptoms, not to mention medications that may be given for an unrelated concern but lead to behavior change. Despite all my efforts, it is likely that many important aspects of PWS which have psychiatric implications have not been adequately addressed. To that end, in a search of the literature, we found limitations in our ability to cite some of the anecdotal findings of clinical practice. However, everything stated in this text is supported by what is generally accepted by the experts of this syndrome"--
