Ellen has spent her entire professional life (nearly 30 years) either writing professionally or teaching English writing and language skills. In the early 1990s, she taught English as an adjunct lecturer at New York University and in the City University of New York system.
She then spent several years as a full-time freelancer, writing about business and other subjects for magazines and corporate clients.
Since 2001 she has been teaching seminars
in business writing, email etiquette, grammar, editing/proofreading, and English as a foreign language at major corporations throughout the U.S., occasionally beyond.
She also offers coaching in English to non-native speakers, typically senior executives at professional services firms.
She is a speaker and writer about language and polyglotism and blogs about different languages and reviews language-learning products for her website Words & Worlds of New York.
She is also the guru behind The Grammar Table, a table she schleps around New York City to solve the world's grammar problems.
Ellen has a B.A. in German studies from Harvard University and an M.A. in comparative literature from UCLA.
