Beschreibung
Inhuman Bondage is the definitive study of slavery for our time. Teaming brilliant analytical skill with rich and powerful prose, this essential work is the result of a lifetime's insight and research from the authority on America's greatest historical problem. At its heart lies the story of slavery in the American South. Brion Davies explores the lives of slaveholders and the enslaved, the role of abolutionists, the impact of slave revolts, and the wider cultural, political, and economical ramifications of the system. . It connects the actual life of slaves with the crucial place of slavery in American politics and stresses that slavery was integral to America's success as a
Nation - not a marginal enterprise. This compelling narrative links together the profits of slavery, the pain of the enslaved, and the legacy of racism. And offers an inspiring example of how abolitionists, barely a fringe group in the 1770s, successfully fought, for one hundred years, to defeat one of human history's greatest evils.
