Everyone feels anxious from time to time, and worry is a natural part of life. But it is all too common for concerns and worries to become a negative cycle, to feel out of control, and a burden. Anxiety gets called Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) when the worry is repetitive and becomes associated with emotional and physical symptoms, and begins to impact upon our ability to enjoy life. If these problems sound familiar to you, this book will provide you with practical help to deal with and overcome problematic worry and anxiety; including GAD.
By picking this book up you've taken the first stride in tackling worry and anxiety. Now, using the STEP Past method - a structured, CBT evidence-based approach that delivers both support and proven techniques for beating anxiety - you can begin to transform your daily life. Written by an expert team with many years of clinical experience, this book will help you get a better understanding of your anxiety and what keeps it going. Your will learn how to tackle unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, and progress to a healthier, happier outlook - without fear of setbacks or relapse.
Dr Lee Kannis-Dymand is a clinical psychologist who has worked in The Priory and the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma at the Maudsley Hospital. He is Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia, and he has also completed a postgraduate diploma in Cognitive Therapy at the University of Oxford.
Janet Carter is Associate Professor in Clinical Psychology at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. Her research interests include mood, mechanisms of therapeutic change and parenting.
