After their team bonding training weekend, Fergus, Wesley, Daisy and the rest of the Hercules' Hopefuls and Wallace's Winners are getting on better together. But are they actually getting a little too big for their boots? Choppy and Grandpa agree that if the squad are to have a chance at the Internationals, then a new coach is needed to give them some new ideas.
Fergus is sure it's going to be his ultimate hero, cycle champ Steve 'Spokes' Sullivan, so when Grandpa introduces Chick Murphy, they are all less than impressed. Chick was also a champion in his time - but now he's in a wheelchair. And he has some strange ideas about training methods. He gets the team doing yoga and wheelbarrow races, and says he's entering them in the Wreck-It Run, a charity race in aid of the local hospital where everyone creates their own adapted bikes from parts and must cycle in pairs. Fergus is sure he's off his rocker - how will this help them get faster and be up to speed for the International time trials?
So Fergus decides to take matters into his own hands and heads back to Nevermore to persuade Dad to come home with him and coach the Hopefuls instead of Chick. But as always, things in the magical kingdom are never quite that straightforward and Fergus learns a few lessons about keeping an open mind.
